• WINTER HARDY ROOT VEGETABLE: Parsnip Tender and True has long, elegant, tapering roots that grow straight and true and are favourites for the show benches. They're also canker-resistant and have very little core, so there's more for your plate.
• TRADITIONAL HERITAGE VARIETY: First introduced around 1887 Tender and True is a very popular variety selected for its reliability and its excellent sweet and rich flavour. A perfect accompaniment for sunday roasts.
• HOW TO GROW: Sow thinly direct into the growing site 2cm deep in rows 45cm apart. Try to choose a stone free tilth growing site. Parsnips can take up to 8 weeks to germinate depending on soil temperatures. Do not transplant seedlings. As soon as seedlings appear, they should be gradually thinned until plants are 10cm apart. Hoe regularly, taking care not to damage the crown of the root.
• TOP GROWING TIPS: Parsnip seed doesn't store well, so sow a fresh crop every year for best results. Parsnips need a long season to grow well and do best started early in the year, they also dislike being transplanted so sow direct. These are extremely winter hardy so can be left in ground and harvested all winter as needed.
