• SPECIALLY SELECTED VARIETY TO SUIT UK CLIMATE: Basil British is specially selected for growing outdoors in UK conditions. It has very robust bright green leaf that is more resistant to colder conditions, won't discolour and retains its traditional intense flavour.
• BRITISH BASIL: A sweet basil that is a perfect accompaniment to many Italian and Mediterranean dishes, combining especailly well with tomato and garlic. Pick leaves and tops of basil regularly throughout the summer to encourage fresh leaves to grow. An attractive plant perfect for growing in pots.
• HOW TO PLANT: Sow seeds 0.5cm deep, in small trays of compost and lightly cover the seeds with a sprinkling of compost, and place at a temperature of 15-20 degrees C. Alternatively sow direct outside in April and May into shallow seed drills. Prick out seedlings individually to 7cm pots, once large enough to handle. Grow on in cooler conditions, then gradually harden off plants in a cold frame before planting out after risk of frost has passed.
• TOP GROWING TIPS: British Basil can also be grown indoors in pots or container to provide a fresh supply of basil leaves all year round. Water sparingly as basil suffers when sitting in wet compost. Harvest leaves individually rather than chopping the plant with scissors, as this will enable new leaves to grow. and is said to deter whitefly so why not try growing it next to tomatoes.
