• Characteristics: Upright, deciduous shrubs with attractive and distinct large buds. The buds go on to blossom into showy flowers that are pleasantly fragranced.
• Growth and Spread: Ultimate height and spread of up to 4m, depending on variety.
• Care and Maintenance: Plant in moist but well-drained soil in a sheltered spot that enjoys plenty of sunshine. Pruning generally isn’t required, but you may wish to cut the plant back slightly after flowering to maintain shape or remove damaged branches. Water regularly during dry spells.
• Period of Interest: Blooms burst into life in spring and last until early summer. Some varieties will continue to flower until August.
• Top Tip: Limit pruning to a few branches at a time and over a long period to prevent the plant becoming stressed and refusing to flower.
