• Blue flag iris, a clump forming marginal perennial 60 to 90cm tall with sword shaped green leaves that build dense upright foliage at the edge of a pond
• Rhizomatous clumps spread 45 to 75cm, giving structure along pond margins, through bog gardens and around naturalistic water features in shallow water
• Large flowers in shades of blue to violet, often marked with yellow and white, open from May to July for a bold display held above the sword shaped green leaves
• Grows in full sun to partial shade in consistently moist or shallowly submerged soil, keeping its upright form through the whole season right at the waterline
• Low to medium difficulty, the dense foliage shelters aquatic insects and small wildlife while the flowers feed pollinators in a wildlife pond or bog garden
