• Brown cylindrical flower spikes stand above the foliage from June to August, giving the strong vertical structure this tall marginal is grown for at water
• Grows in full sun in shallow water or ground that stays wet, forming dense vertical stands along a pond edge or wetland margin right through the season
• Medium to high difficulty as the growth is invasive and needs control, though the dense stands shelter insects, amphibians and other wetland wildlife at the margin
