- The grille has four non flaps with a gravity flap. The closure works by air extraction, which opens the blades to allow air to pass through. When the exhaust fan or ventilation system is not in use, the grille shutters close automatically. This is intended to protect your ventilation duct from unpleasant smells and noises and prevent the ingress of air or rain as well as the ingress of objects or vermin when not in use.
