  • With conventional saws, cutting is done by pushing. This requires a relatively large blade thickness to ensure sufficient stability. With Japanese saws, on the other hand, the cutting is done by pulling. The blade can therefore be very thin because it only undergoes a pulling force and cannot left. As a result, the saw line is thinner and the cutting force is consequently significantly less.
