- CAMELLIA PLANTS - Camellia japonica are evergreen plants with an upright growing habit commonly known as Japanese camellia. These Spring flowering ready to plant shrubs are popular for growing in UK gardens. With their dark green glossy oval to ovate leaves and blousy flowers in pinks, whites and reds, these statement plants will add interest to any gardening scheme.

- GROWING CONDITIONS - These outdoor flowering plants are happiest in a semi shaded location with light dappled shade from other trees and shrubs. A westerly or sheltered northerly location is best. Avoid a south or east facing position, as the early morning sun can damage the flowers. Camellias are best grown in neutral to slightly acidic soil, they don t cope well in chalky or alkaline soils. When planting in these soil conditions it is advised to add acidic matter or ericaceous compost.
- WATERING - Camellias like to be watered with rainwater and require regular watering when newly planted. This is usually the first 18 months after planting. It is also important to water throughout the Summer months as this is when the flower buds are produced. Avoid prolonged spells of watering with tap water if you live in a hard water area.
